Wilson described the scene as “gunfire galore,” with officers army-crawling through his backyard, hiding behind trees, and jumping around bushes. The North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections stated that two of the USMS members were N.C. They were identified as Sam Poloche and Alden Elliott. Poloche leaves behind a wife and two children, while Elliott and his wife are parents to one child.

Charlotte Country Day School Reviews

For miles around the shooting scene Monday, police officers temporarily closed busy roads such as Interstate 77, Interstate 277 and U.S. 74 (Independence Blvd.) as ambulances carried injured officers to local hospitals. "I am deeply saddened by the shooting that occurred," Vi Lyles, Charlotte's mayor, said on X, the social media site formerly known as Twitter. "I ask that all Charlotteans keep them, and the other injured officers, and their families in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time."

President Biden released a statement honoring the fallen officers. Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools confirmed four schools were on a modified lockdown due to the shooting. The schools were Devonshire Elementary School, Briarwood Academy, Cochrane Collegiate and Lawrence Orr Elementary School. Senior Aidan Hill had a big day for Charlotte Latin, winning the 100 backstroke and the 100 butterfly — the latter in record time.

We seek to admit talented and motivated students, regardless of family resources. We also extend our support to the officers’ families, loved ones, and teammates. We recognize your grief and pledge our steadfast support during this challenging time. We must do more to protect our law enforcement officers. That means funding them - so they have the resources they need to do their jobs and keep us safe.

If your loved one was impacted by this incident, WCNC Charlotte hopes to make this process less painful with our More Than A Number initiative. With your help, we want to share who your loved one was with our viewers in North Carolina and South Carolina. When you're ready, fill out the form below or send us photos, memories and other details about them to "They are heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice, rushing into harm’s way to protect us. We mourn for them and their loved ones. And we pray for the recoveries of the courageous officers who were wounded." Jennings believes all of the officers were shot by Hughes.

The 23,000 square-foot Dowd Science Building includes eight science lecture/lab classrooms fully equipped to support the Middle School’s hands-on science program. We're committed to taking a whole-community approach to preparing our students to use the immense power of digital media to explore, create, connect, and learn, while limiting the perils that exist in the online realm. Now is the time to set aside our differences and focus on the physical and mental health well-being of those who protect and serve our communities. It is a time for unity and shared concern for our law enforcement family. Live on WBTV, Tyler Wilson described officers streaming into his home, including one officer who appeared to be a sniper using his window during an active shootout Monday afternoon.

Mallard won the 100 butterfly in a time of 53.70 seconds, breaking the mark of 54.44 set last year by Zetta Grace Bartee of Providence Day. At first, he seems uncaring and cold, but eventually, he develops a fondness for Wilbur and appreciates Charlotte’s efforts to save Wilbur’s life. He gives Wilbur a safe place to live. Charlotte’s most notable trait is her selfless nature. She often puts others before herself, going out of her way to help Wilbur, even though it means sacrificing her own safety and well-being. Charlotte’s personality is characterized by her warm-heartedness, her strong sense of morality, and her unyielding loyalty. Her gentle and understanding attitude makes her an inspiration to readers, young and old.

Farley comes back, steals Cardigan from the barn, and plans to eat him. Wilbur now must save his friend, and does so by trapping Farley in a pig web. Nellie, Aranea, and Joy spin the word "fox" in a spider web, and Fern arrives just in time to save Wilbur. Farley, while not shown, is most likely disposed of.

Plot

During this time, Wilbur befriends Cardigan, a newborn lamb that is looked down upon by the other lambs and the younger sheep of his flock because he has black wool. Wilbur takes Cardigan under his wing and shows him the farm, the ways of animal life, and dangers to look out for. During this time, Wilbur befriends Cardigan, a newborn lamb that is frowned upon and made fun of by the other lambs and the younger sheep of his flock because he has black wool. These two central characters work together to save Wilbur’s life, crafting messages into Charlotte’s web, along with help from the other farm animals. Although this novel was written for and is still primarily read by children, it’s loved by readers of all ages around the world.

What is controversial about Charlotte’s Web?

The moral of the story is that friendship knows no bounds. The farm animals work together, and the friendship truly blossoms between Wilbur and Charlotte. Additionally, Fern’s love of the animals, particularly in the first half of the novel, plays into this moral quite well. She declares that they are her best friends, rather than any children her own age she might know.

The film centers around Wilbur, who lives on Homer Zuckerman's farm and is taking care of Nellie, Aranea and Joy (Charlotte's three daughters). He also must save his new friend, a friendly black lamb named Cardigan, from being eaten by an evil fox named Farley. Mr. Zuckerman took fine care of Wilbur all the rest of his days, and the pig was often visited by friends and admirers, for nobody ever forgot the year of his triumph and the miracle of the web.

Charlotte proves that small acts of kindness can make all the difference in someone’s life. Interspersed in the plot are four songs, including a number sung by the young daughters of Charlotte as they psyche themselves up to replicate the web artistry known of their mother. Kids will enjoy these songs, though they add absolutely nothing to the story. This was a direct-to-video project, very obviously a money-making venture stemming from the success of Charlotte's Web. Hearing of a sequel to the beloved children's classic may make parents wince; there's no comparison at all to the original. But on its own, it's a story that is not terribly frightening and does attempt to tackle issues about friendship.

She wants her daughter to make friends with children her own age and not spend as much time with animals, though. White’s timeless classic Charlotte’s Web. Wilbur is a young pig who is about to be sent away to be slaughtered until he is saved by a small gray spider named Charlotte. Wilbur’s life is changed forever when Charlotte saves him, and he has a unique opportunity to learn and experience more than what he had ever imagined before. Mr. Zuckerman is the farmer who owns the barn where Wilbur lives.

Nobody, of the hundreds of people that had visited the Fair, knew that a grey spider had played the most important part of all. He carefully took the little bundle in his mouth and held it there on top of his tongue. He remembered what Charlotte had told him—that the sac was waterproof and strong. It felt funny on his tongue and made him drool a bit. And of course he couldn’t say anything.

Aranea and Joy decide to stay with Cardigan, and the film ends as Wilbur has to babysit Templeton's children. Meanwhile, an evil fox named Farley comes and steals a hen from the barn, and Wilbur is framed for the attack after trying to stop him. Wilbur now must save his friend, and does so by trapping Farley in a "pig web". Charlotte is a grey spider with a white streak on her back, is one of the main characters in E.B. Wilbur quickly becomes a lovable character, with his naivety and innocence making him endearing to all readers.

Next day, as the Ferris wheel was being taken apart and the race horses were being loaded into vans and the entertainers were packing up their belongings and driving away in their trailers, Charlotte died. The sheds and buildings were empty and forlorn. The infield was littered with bottles and trash.

Her three daughters, Nellie, Aranea, and Joy, are now in the stages of adolescence, with Wilbur serving as a companion and mentor. She treats Wilbur like a friend, and he returns her affection by following her around. The first half of the novel is primarily driven by Fern’s friendship with Wilbur. […] Of course, I don’t really eat them. I love blood,” said Charlotte, and her pleasant, thin voice grew even thinner and more pleasant.

The geese are a group of birds who live near the barn where Wilbur lives. They are important characters in Charlotte’s Web because they help spread the news of Wilbur’s greatness throughout the countryside. Fern is the eight-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arable, who saves Wilbur from being slaughtered when he is born. Fern is kind-hearted and loves animals, especially Wilbur.

Templeton is a rat who lives in the barn where Wilbur is kept and is often considered to be the antagonist of the novel. At first, he appears selfish and unhelpful, but as the story progresses, he becomes an important ally of Wilbur. Templeton helps Wilbur by finding materials for Charlotte’s web and by using his wily ways to trick other animals on the farm. White features some of the best-loved characters in the history of children’s literature—Charlotte and Wilbur. The film opens in springtime, the year after Charlotte has died.

Oceanside's Pour House owners have big plans for Firewater

pour house oceanside

Love this place, will always bring it up when deciding plans for the night. The harsh way Firewater Saloon in downtown Oceanside was closed September 25 is not how the state Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) usually deals with bar owners it doesn’t like. Firewater owners were given a ten-day notice before armed-and-uniformed state ABC officers and Oceanside police officers came in and posted SUSPENDED signs in the window and confiscated any leftover liquor. The owners had 180 days to sell the license. The Pour House stage features an array of talent from throughout Southern California and beyond.

Street parking only, but in this part of town is usually very easy. Jen and Coco are the absolute best, I'm always so glad to see them working! Food is great, and the burger always hits. Kitchen and bar are quick, and do a great job.

Major interior changes are planned. “We really like the way the Multnomah Whiskey Library in Portland looks,” says David Rassel about the interior feel he and wife Emily are looking for. The Rassels have agreed to take over the Firewater’s nine-year lease and to purchase its liquor license. All plans must be signed off by the ABC, the City of Oceanside, and Oceanside Police. A local couple have arranged to turn the old Firewater into an upscale cocktail lounge, similar in approach to the Polite Provisions in North Park or Nobel Experiment downtown. Both employ well-trained mixologists instead of bartenders.

“That [Oceanside News] sign was cast in concrete so we’re not sure what we’re going to do,” says Aldrich. “If we were to move it we would need a crane. But we’re not sure what would happen if we did try to move it.” Aldrich removed the bar’s old drop ceiling and siding leaving its original brick walls exposed.

“I have a four-year lease.” But with all the intense pressure to gentrify downtown, what if he gets a lucrative offer to buy out his lease, I ask. Besides I have two granddaughters, one grandson, and a niece who works here. I guess you call that nepotism,” he laughed. But not everybody is ready to give up on the old downtown Oceanside which has catered to Camp Pendleton Marines for 75 years. Witness Jerry Alexander who owns and operates GI Joe's Military Surplus right next door to the old Firewater. “The only way they will get me out of here is feet first,” says octogenarian Alexander who has been selling uniforms and medals to Camp Pendleton Marines for 50 years.

Cinco De Mayo - Sunset Soirées [ House Music Del Mar ]

The Rassels are known for the Pour House, a South Oceanside restaurant/bar they opened five years ago which has done well with original live music five nights a week. Rassel accepts their new bar will not have music and must close by midnight. Those are the stipulations now mandated for any new bar at that address because of Firewater’s sketchy history. Oceanside Police said at the time that there had been numerous late night calls for service for fights and other problems outside the bar.

Eight years ago a Firewater bartender sold drugs resulting in a liquor license suspension and about that time there was a death that resulted from an assault by a Firewater bouncer and a separate stabbing. Also surprised by the Oceanside News storefront was landlord Tom Aldrich who owns the Firewater building and the three-story hotel next door that was built in 1888. He is spending seven figures to retrofit and renovate that all-brick hotel for a hoped-for 2020 opening. But what happens when and if the military-serving barber shops, dry cleaners, and military gear stores eventually get squeezed out of downtown Oceanside? “I guess they’ll just have to buy everything they need on base,” says Alexander.

Charlotte Tilbury Glow Toner Review 2022

charlotte tilbury glow toner

You acknowledge that you, not Space NK, are responsible for the contents of your submission. I purchased this to change up from my normal Elemis toner, firstly the scent of this is beautiful and it feels really lovely to actually use the product.I’ve noticed a notable difference in my skin tone and glow in my skin after using. The product is expensive but in my opinion worth it. But don't get me wrong — it was even better than what I originally thought.

My Review of Charlotte Tilbury Glow Toner

It does feel really nice and refreshing and it’s great that it doesn’t have acid because I think it’s so easy to over-use acid by accident. It doesn’t give you that super boost of moisture that an essence does, but then it is supposed to be a toner and not an essence. Silky and smooth skin awaits with Charlotte Tilbury's gentle Glow Toner. Yes, the Charlotte Tilbury Glow Toner has been designed for use daily both AM and PM.

Ingredients

Fragrance (parfum) comes 13th on the ingredients list. There is also LIMONENE, CITRONELLOL, GERANIOL, LINALOOL, CITRAL, EUGENOL much lower down on the ingredients list, used as low level fragrance. However, having said that, it is acid free but it does contain fragrance. So if you are particularly sensitive to fragrance, then this may not be for you. It also contains an alcohol form, Benzyl Alcohol whose primary function is to act as a preservative, but it is considered to be minimally sensitising.

Step 7

Once the moment of truth came — that is, after buffing out the rosy-pink liquid formula with my Real Techniques Expert Face Makeup Brush — the pink pigment seemed to have disappeared… but not entirely. What remained was a very subtle hint of pink and some barely-even-there sparkles smattered on the high points of my cheeks and the bottom corners of my forehead. I'm not really partial to base products with a vibrant color payoff and lots of sheen, so I was glad that this product didn't look as intense as it did straight out of the tube.

Los Angeles-based makeup artist Robin Black's philosophy on highlighters pretty much summarizes how this beauty wand worked its magic on my face. "It has the added benefit of giving a dewy, fresh look to the skin and can help makeup look less makeup-y," she previously told Allure. The formula contains a couple of ingredients designed to boost the skin’s natural exfoliation process without using any added acid exfoliators. There’s a Prickly Pear Extract (Exfolactive) that boosts natural exfoliation and also a Peptide that boosts cell turnover.

I’d say if you were wanting to use it just once per day, then night time would be the most appropriate for a really thorough cleansing process. This is slightly tricky because, as it is acid free, it has been formulated to be more gentle than a classic exfoliating toner, and in this respect, should be good if you are sensitive. I’ve given this product 3 stars as personally I just didn’t get it / notice any change. It’s a thick consistency and a little goes a long way. The smell is gorgeous and it went on nicely. But I didn’t notice a long term difference / feel much difference.

Is it suitable for sensitive skin?

The new Charlotte Tilbury Glow Toner has launched and I have been testing it out. This is an acid-free product which works to tone and promote skin renewal. If you have an NDULGE account you can receive 10 Ndulge points per review, for a maximum of 10 reviews per month. Please see here for further information about your reviews and NDULGE points. Use the tab key or shift plus tab keys to move between the menu items. You can also use it directly on to the skin by splashing a few drops into your palms and pressing it on to the skin, but I find this makes it less effective at ‘toning’ and working to remove last traces of cleanser and impurities.

It smells lovely and applies well, hydrating my skin and making it look glowy. I like this toner for boosting my usual skin care stuff and keeping my skin really hydrated throughout the day especially on non-make up days. It also makes a great smooth base for make up. I really rate all of the Charlotte tilbury skincare I have tried and this lives up to the brand’s high standards. Formulated with niacinamide to help smooth skin and reduce the appearance of pores, this toner also contains sodium hyaluronate to help skin retain moisture.

We're proud to say that all customer reviews are independent, authentic and do not represent the views of Cult Beauty or The Hut Group. If anything, it adds a light layer of hydration while balancing the skin. It has a similar smell to that of most Charlotte Tilbury skincare – a kind of floral scent that you will be used to if you use other CT products. I find that the action of the cotton pad swept across the skin ensures skin is completely clean and ready for the next post-toning steps. For the latest information, it is recommended to review the ingredient list printed on the packaging of the product prior to usage or consumption.

Zero Down Payment? How to Buy a House With No Money Down

how to buy a house with no money down

This means you can pool resources with family members or even renters to meet income qualifications, expanding your home buying potential. Recognizing the financial burdens of medical school debt and the eventual high earning potential of doctors, these loans offer more flexible terms and requirements. Most veterans, active-duty service members, and honorably discharged service personnel are eligible for the VA program.

Need Mortgage Help? Here Are Your Options

However, while putting 20% down is often the rule of thumb, you might not need a down payment of this size. In fact, some mortgage options don’t require a down payment at all. You may also be eligible for assistance in the form of a savings match from a housing finance agency in your state.

Daily HELOC rates on April 15, 2024: Rates are steady

how to buy a house with no money down

Only government-backed loans offer zero-down options to homebuyers; for conventional loans, you’ll need to put something down. Having the government backing the loan means lenders are taking on less risk compared with a conventional loan. Because of this, private lenders are more comfortable extending zero-down financing on government-backed loans with favorable rates and terms.

What is a down payment?

Most significantly, it can reduce the cost you pay to borrow money over the life of the loan. Reducing the amount you need to borrow, even by a little bit, will lower the amount you pay in interest over time, and it can lower your monthly payments as well. If you haven’t heard of down payment assistance before, you’re not alone.

Borrowers are eligible with a 3 percent down payment and a credit score of 620 or higher. The Conventional 97 from Fannie Mae allows borrowers to secure a conventional loan mortgage with a 3 percent down payment. Mortgage gifts, grants, and other downpayment assistance can cover your down payment. There’s also down payment assistance available to help you get a mortgage with no money out of pocket. Federal, state, and non-profit agencies — and even mortgage lenders — offer grants and loans to support first-time buyers. Avoiding or reducing your down payment means you have savings to fall back on when emergencies arise.

FHA loans are backed by the Federal Housing Administration and issued by FHA-approved lenders. These loans are designed for low-to-moderate-income borrowers who may not have the minimum credit score required for a conventional loan. While the USDA and VA don’t set specific credit score requirements, the lenders that offer USDA and VA loans usually have their own eligibility criteria. To qualify for a USDA, you’ll generally need a credit score of 640. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA), VA loans are available to both active and retired members of the armed forces and qualifying spouses with a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) from the VA.

Other requirements vary based on whether you’re active duty or a former member of the military, if you served or are serving in the National Guard or Reserve, and when you served. 38% percent of prospective home buyers say "saving for a down payment" is their biggest obstacle to homeownership, but buying a home is more accessible than many home buyers think. When you buy a house with no money down, you can lock in your housing payment long term, protect yourself from rent increases, and build wealth with a monthly payment similar to your rent. You must have a certificate of eligibility (COE) to apply for a VA loan.

While piggyback loans have their advantages, they also come with their own set of complexities. Managing two different loans means two sets of terms and two interest rates. It’s essential to have a firm understanding of both loans and ensure that the sum of both payments fits within your budget. However, it’s important to note that this program comes with commitments. You must agree to live on the property as your primary residence for at least 36 months, and, depending on your profession, you may also be required to work within the area where the home is located. One distinguishing feature of the HomeReady program is its consideration for extended household income.

The conventional wisdom is that you need 20 percent down, but in reality, you don’t have to save that much. For many homebuyers, saving up for a down payment can seem like a massive roadblock, especially with home prices skyrocketing. But there are mortgage options designed specifically for those who can’t save the standard 20% down of the loan amount—or don’t want to wait until they do.

They’re usually reserved for first-time buyers, veterans, or people buying homes in federally targeted areas. You might start a search for assistance with your state housing finance agency or HUD and then look for city and county programs. However, it is essential to do your research and carefully consider the long-term financial implications before making any major decisions. The VA and USDA loan programs both offer options that may allow you to buy a house with no money down. While both loan programs have strict requirements, those who fit the parameters have access to affordable home financing without thousands of dollars in the bank. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Veterans Affairs (VA), provide assistance to low- and moderate-income families to help them buy homes with no down payment.

The program will accept not just personal savings but also employer assistance programs and even gift funds, providing broader opportunities for qualifying applicants. These programs provide home buyers with low-interest loans, grants, and tax credits. Homebuyers can receive up to 3% of the home’s price for conventional loans and 6% for FHA loans from the seller to cover closing costs. The only way to buy a home with zero down payment is to use a government-backed loan. Government-backed loans are loans that include insurance from the federal government, making them less risky for lenders. As a result, mortgage loan providers can offer them less strict requirements when compared to conventional mortgage loans.

For first-time homebuyers, the down payment is often the biggest barrier to homeownership. A lot of us went through the post-college days where we ate ramen every night, shopped the clearance bins, and went to the dollar theater while getting on our feet. But even if you pinch pennies, it’s often not enough to save up for a home.

Buying a house with no money down is possible if you’ve served in the military, live in a rural area or work in health care. If you don’t fall into one of those groups, however, you likely won’t have access to an official zero-down loan. As we mentioned above, your down payment isn’t the only upfront cost when buying a home. For instance, one down payment assistance loan in New York City can offer up to $100,000 for eligible buyers, while another in Arkansas may cap assistance at $15,000. With options like first-time home buyer loans with zero down, you don’t have to wait years to save up. With an FHA loan, you can put just 3.5% down as long as your credit score is 580 or higher.

VA loans are designed for veterans and active military members, and they offer the advantage of no down payment and no requirement for mortgage insurance. This makes them an attractive option for eligible first-time buyers. For example, VA loans cater to military veterans and offer benefits like no down payment and no mortgage insurance. USDA loans, on the other hand, are designed to promote homeownership in rural and certain suburban areas, also with no down payment required.

If you’ve owned a home in the past, you probably already know that termites are one of the most destructive types of pests that you can have on your property. Professional termite extermination company Orkin estimates that termites cause between $1 billion and $2 billion in property damage every year. As such, it’s obvious why you’d want to be 100% positive that there are no termites or signs of termite activity in any property you purchase. While an appraiser will provide you with a general idea of the value of your property, they will not take a tour of the property testing its systems. A home inspector is a professional who will attempt to identify any areas of damage where you might need to spend money after moving into the property.

Conventional loan

Understanding these pros and cons can help you make a decision that aligns well with your financial circumstances and long-term goals. According to the FHA’s guidelines, you could even get a mortgage with a credit score of 500 to 579, as long as you can put at least 10% down. But in practice, it’s harder to find lenders who will allow FICO scores below 580.

Many of the ones still around are run-down and often being removed to build townhomes, apartments, or single-family homes. Multifamily house hacking means purchasing a property with at least two units. This wouldn’t be a situation where you borrow money and pay it back on a schedule. Here, you’re working with a true partner, someone with whom you make plans and share profits. Because of the short-term nature of the loans, they’re not ideal for rental properties. With a cash-out refinance, you can convert your existing equity into cash in your pocket rather than borrowing it.

If your credit score is between 500 and 579, you’ll need to make a down payment of at least 10%. VA loans also don’t come with mortgage insurance, though they do require a funding fee. Because these loans are backed by the federal government and therefore present less risk for lenders, they can be easier to qualify for compared to conventional loans. Saving up for a down payment is a huge hurdle to homeownership, especially when you’re juggling other expenses like rent or student loans.

FAQ: First-time home buyer loans with zero down

This investment can be covered by gifts, grants, and other DPA programs. If you’re a higher-income earner, the second loan has a monthly payment. Buyers can choose a 10-year loan with no interest, or a 30-year loan with 5 percent interest.

The good news is that you can buy a house with less than 20% down though it is a good idea to put down as much as you can. Here are some of the considerations when thinking about how much of a down payment you may need for your dream house. You’re excited, hopeful, and at the same time, wondering if you made the right decision. If you think you’re ready to buy a home, contact a lender and see if you can be pre-approved.

Tax laws and regulations are complex and subject to change, which can materially impact investment results. Fidelity cannot guarantee that the information herein is accurate, complete, or timely. Consult an attorney or tax professional regarding your specific situation. Government-backed USDA loans make rural and low-income home ownership more accessible. A mortgage with low or no down payment is the backbone for no-money homebuying. For example, if your property taxes are $300 per month and you need to prepay six months at closing, that’s $1,800.

At Jeff Bezos–backed Arrived, the high interest rates are “a big reason why more and more have joined,” says CEO Ryan Frazier. But some invest more, and there’s now $150 million invested across about 400 properties on Arrived, says Frazier. Returns on a few of the company’s longer-held properties have topped 70 percent, although a number of other properties sit in the red.

The VA loan program offers several options, including purchase and refinance mortgages, rehab and renovation loans, and the Native American Direct Loan. If you’re wondering how to buy a house with no money down, here’s what you should know. Bankrate has partnerships with issuers including, but not limited to, American Express, Bank of America, Capital One, Chase, Citi and Discover. Because of this, FHA mortgage interest rates can be somewhat higher. Homeowners pay PMI up-front, with an additional monthly payment, or a combination of the two.

Although you’re the one paying for it, PMI offers no benefits to you. As a result, most homeowners want to cancel PMI as soon as possible. You can contact your lender and request that they cancel your PMI plan as soon as you reach 20% equity in your home based on payments.

A Conventional 97 mortgage is another Fannie and Freddie program that only requires a 3 percent down payment. You might pay more for private mortgage insurance (PMI) with this type of loan, but your payment depends on your financial profile. You can also request to cancel PMI when you reach 20 percent equity in your home. A no-down payment mortgage is a home loan that allows you to finance 100 percent of the home’s purchase price without having to put any money down at closing.

In September 2007, the Mayor formed a panel that recommended that the Port of San Francisco develop a new, primary cruise terminal to meet the increased demand for cruise ships. The panel selected Pier 27 to be the primary site because it would be the most cost-effective and strategic location on the San Francisco waterfront. The site is located at the intersection of The Embarcadero, Lombard Street and Battery Street. SFO is a larger airport, having many international and domestic flights daily, including those from Delta, Southwest and JetBlue. Extend your cruise vacation, and simplify your travel plans with a hotel stay at the beginning or end of your cruise. Nearby attractions include the USS Pampanito Submarine, Aquarium of the Bay, Alcatraz Cruises and the Exploratorium. The new cruise terminal on Pier 27 is longer than the old terminal and has increased passenger capacity. There is a public plaza at the end of the pier on the Embarcadero Promenade. It offers views of the entire SF bay, including Coit Tower and the Bay Bridge. The cruise pier is right in the middle of The City, very close to Fisherman’s Wharf. Some hotels are within walking distance of the terminal, no shuttle needed.

Cruise Ducks: What They Mean and How to Hide Your Own

ducks on cruise ships

The tag gives your ducky its backstory and instructions so that each finder can participate in the fun. Origami ducks come in various shapes and colors, each a small masterpiece. I have seen passengers leave behind their creations as tiny surprises for fellow cruisers to discover. I find it fascinating how such a small gesture can bring so much excitement to fellow cruisers. These adorable critters often come in various colors, designs, and sizes, making the hunt even more thrilling. Sometimes, the ducks come with notes asking that their original owner be contacted or that, once found, a picture be posted in a specific Facebook group.

Tips for Finding Ducks

Just be sure you are looking for a peek of bright yellow, although I’ve also found pink ducks. Ducks can generally be hidden in public spaces on cruise ships except for pools, spas, or shops. After hiding a duck, it’s a lot of fun to sit and wait to see if someone finds it. You can check your hiding spot later in the cruise to see if your rubber duck has been discovered.

Guidelines for Hiding Ducks

Cruise Ducks may only be as recent as 2018, but one travel advisor TMR spoke with has been sending her clients ducks to photograph on their cruise vacations for even longer. My kids hid their ducks around the atrium, near elevators and stairs, along the corridor to our cabin and outside restaurants. Some people may be more stealth with their hiding spots, but my kids wanted their ducks to be relatively easy to find.

Cruise Ducks: Tips, Rules & Everything You Need to Know

Plus, you can request custom designs on tags to match the theme of your cruise or to have a more personalized touch. By following these guidelines and putting some thought into your hiding places, you can contribute to the fun and excitement of discovering and sharing cruising ducks on your next voyage. They even use the hashtag #cruisingducks to make it easier for duck hunters to share their finds. Sometimes the ducks are adorned with a tag or label of the person/family that placed them or the date of the cruise and the ship. Beyond simply getting tips (or sharing hints of where Heather from FlowVoyages and I have hidden ducks!), these groups are a great way to meet new friends and ask questions as well as share photos. You can use colored rubber bands to attach the tags to the necks of the rubber ducks, twine or some curling ribbon.

When hiding your ducks, make sure not to create any obstacles or problems for staff. Until that happens, please do what you can to be both a duck hider and a cruise duck hunter in the most family friendly and responsible way. The nice thing about these groups is to be able to chat about cruising ducks and ask questions to other people who are really into this. Natali, a first time participant, kindly shared the story of her special ducks (seen above).

Cruise Ducks: Everything You Ever Wanted to Know!

When you find a duck, the choice is yours whether or not to keep it or hide it again for someone else to enjoy, with no judgment about which you choose. Some travelers reposition ducks immediately, while others might wait for a day or two. Hiding your little rubber friends can be an enjoyable challenge and an engaging game of hide-and-seek for passengers. As someone who spends too much time looking for the best cruise ducks, I can recommend and trust a few sources I have used. Always remember to be respectful of the crew members and the hard work they put into maintaining the ship and ensuring a pleasant experience for everyone on board.

Personalize Your Cruise Duck with Cruise Duck Tags

However, it’s important to keep safety in mind and avoid making them too small, as they could pose a choking hazard for young children. Some guests report seeing ducks discarded in the trash, though this was more frequent when the game was less well-known than today. For those looking to celebrate Halloween on a cruise, themed ducks can be found sporting various spooky disguises. You can either keep the duck as a souvenir from your trip or re-hide it for someone else to discover.

When did people start hiding ducks on cruise ships?

Most cruise lines have made their crew aware of cruise ducks, and most crew members say they enjoy it. Early on, some reported that crew would throw away the ducks, but this doesn’t seem to be an issue now. You may want to personalize your cruising duck with your own cruise duck tags, passports or stickers. Cruising ducks is actually a fun game, with a few rules to follow if you decide to bring cruising ducks on your cruise vacation. What began in 2018 as a cute gesture by a 10-year-old girl named Abby — who simply wanted to make other passengers smile — now spans several Facebook groups with hundreds of thousands of members. In these groups, cruisers chat about the ducks they've ordered, the best places to purchase them, clever places to hide them after they've set sail and the best ways to attach the information tags.

Creativity knows no bounds when it comes to decorating these ducks. Handcrafted crochet ducks are especially popular, with intricate patterns and vibrant colors that catch the eye. The sizes vary too, from tiny ducks that could fit in the palm of your hand to larger ones that are designed to stand out.

The more inventive you can be, the more joy you’ll bring to fellow passengers when they discover your hidden treasure on their cruise vacations. As you walk around the ship and discover rubber ducks, you can keep them as souvenirs or re-hide them for others to find. 🙈 The lido deck is a popular place for cruisers to hang out on sea days. Since ducks love the water, why not place one near the pool or underneath a nearby lounger? Of course, you won't want to place one directly in the water, as the rocking of the ship will quickly move it! Additionally, if a young child happens to spot a duck in the water, they could endanger themselves by reaching for it and accidentally falling in.

The passion for cruise ducks spills over into social media, bringing enthusiasts together to celebrate their shared interests. Moreover, the use of hashtags plays a significant role in connecting people on a global level. By using the hashtag #cruisingducks, members can quickly discover content related to cruise ducks, exchange experiences, and follow the journeys of these cute collectibles. Most come with a tag attached to help differentiate cruise ducks from rubber ducks. The tag typically contains the name of the person who placed the duck, along with some basic instructions on what to do when one is found.

It's your duck but I do think things are best when you can continue spreading the fun and it ends up in the hands of a cruise duck collector or a kid who is excited just to find something fun and new. It's sort of like the trinkets you get at Mardi Gras - some are mass produced and fun to find, while others have more care taken to create unique ones. I’ve scrolled through a few and have seen so any great ideas for ducks and tags.

Passengers purchase rubber ducks, customize them with mini tags, and discreetly hide them in spots around the cruise ship. Fellow cruisers then try to locate the ducks, take pictures, and often re-hide them for the next person to experience the fun. As cruising ducks have gained popularity, there are a few ready to go cruise ducks sets available as well. It’s fun for people who hide cruising ducks to see that they’re found, and they may include an instruction to post a photo to a cruising duck facebook page or to use a hashtag #cruisingducks.

Welcome to the world of cruise ducks, a fun and popular trend that’s captured the hearts of cruisers in recent years. Cruising ducks are a creative, cheerful, and fun way for many passengers to add enjoyment to their cruise vacations. Whether you bring ducks aboard to hide, prefer to be a duck finder and keep the ducks you seek, or rehide every quirky duck you come across, everyone can be a part of this oceangoing scavenger hunt. If the ducks you buy do not come with pre-made labels or tags, a variety of templates for cruise duck tags can be found online, including on the dedicated cruising ducks Facebook page and groups. Any rubber ducks have themed designs, and holiday ducks are especially popular for Christmas, Halloween, Easter, or other holiday sailings.

ducks on cruise ships

The Cruising Ducks - Original group page alone has more than 192,000 members. Throughout the cruise, Abby and her family interacted with passengers who shared the joy and excitement of finding the little yellow toys. When sailing on Carnival Breeze in 2018 with her family, Abby brought 50 little ducks to hide around the ship. The simple answer is that rubber duckies are cute, universally recognizable, and easy to find. They’re also fairly cheap and only take up a little space in your luggage. We think hiding ducks in restaurants and buffets are not the best idea for sanitary reasons.

This initiative led to the creation of a cruising ducks Facebook page. This group has since grown into a community of over 253,000 members who share the fun of hiding and finding ducks on cruise ships. This cruising trend started when Abby Davis and her father brought 50 rubber ducks aboard the Carnival Breeze, and hid 7 each day. While some recall finding ducks as early as 2015, it became widely popular in 2018.
